My own journey has been repeatedly marked by someone seeing something in me before I could see it in myself, and I’m grateful for the many, many enriching experiences I’ve had as a result of those invitations. At Buckley, we strive to help students have the same experience. Our teachers and coaches inspire students to find their unique strengths, their unique voice, and their unique capacity, so that they may, in the words of our mission, “find joy and meaning in life, and make an impact in the world.”
Architects of the Future
In the years since I joined Buckley, we’ve kept the promise of our mission and illuminated it through our Portrait of a Graduate. In 2020, our faculty, staff, parents, and students developed a shared vision that all Buckley students should cross the stage at graduation prepared to be an “Architect of the Future.”
Our aspirations are bold. These literal and figurative architects are Creative Thinkers, Resilient Explorers, Dynamic Storytellers, Inclusive Leaders, and True Friends. They strive to “ask a better question,” “relish experimentation, play, and curiosity,” “advocate for justice,” and “examine the human condition” among other behaviors. What separates Buckley is that we are all about the and. This is the school where you can be a varsity athlete and be in the musical; where you can be the captain of the robotics team and be a reading buddy in Lower School; where you can be our head ambassador and write for the paper, etc. etc. We’re big enough to offer it all, and small enough for you to try it all.
